Charlotte’s Story

I was signposted to No5 after severe depressive and suicidal episodes and self-harm as a young teenager. I didn’t have the money for a private therapist and it was my first experience of counselling and of talking to someone who’s emotional reactions I didn’t have to worry about. Providing that space to talk outside of the NHS/CAMHS system meant a great deal to me. In the end it would take many more years of work as I left school and moved away from Reading to finally realise I was trans (which I didn’t even know I could be back then!), but my time at No5 meant I knew what to expect in the future from therapy where I felt safe, respected and not judged.
